LegalZoom prices registered agent service at $249 annually. Our check found no opening discount and no reduced first term, so the number applies from day one and repeats automatically. That is the highest flat rate among the services we track for Illinois.

The comparison that matters is not brand against brand. It is $249 against $99 for a duty the state defines rather than the vendor. Illinois asks the agent to hold a physical office in the state, stay reachable during business hours, and accept service of process for your company. A $249 agent does that. A $99 agent does that. The Secretary of State's record does not note which one you hired.

Translating $150 Into Illinois Money

The annual difference is $150, and Illinois gives that number a useful shape. Every Illinois LLC files Form LLC-50.1 once a year at $75, so the spread between these two agent prices would cover two of those filings outright. Put another way, the premium on a single LegalZoom year pays the state twice over for the only recurring filing Illinois actually requires from you.

Hold onto that framing, because the annual report is where an agent either earns its fee or fails to. Illinois runs no shared statewide due date. Each report falls due before the first of the company's own anniversary month, with a window that opens 60 days ahead of it. A June company always files before June 1, and nothing on a wall calendar volunteers that fact. Let it slip 60 days and the state adds $100 to the $75 you already owed. An agent watching that date is doing something for you that fame cannot.
